Hello my name is Cookie the Beagle!
I was born on December 9, 1996. A Beagle,
contrary to public belief, is not a dog. The Beagle is a hound, a member of a select fraternity within
the canine world, bred for centuries to hunt as part of a
large pack.
Origin: This breed was probably developed in Elizabethan times by
crossings between the harrier and ancient English hounds.
Description: It is similar to the harrier, but with shorter
legs. Hardy and extremely active, it is from 13 to 16 inches high.
Weight is 18 to 30 pounds. It has a powerful but not coarse head and a
black nose with very developed nostrils. Its skull is dome-shaped; muzzle,
pointed; stop, distinct. Eyes: chestnut or hazel, with a sweet
expression. Ears: long and hanging against its cheeks. Neck: rather
long, with slight dewlap. Thighs: very muscular. Feet: round and
strong. there are two types of beagle distinguished only by their coats:
one with smooth but not particularly fine hair and one with rough hair.
Colors: blue with black tigering, white, black, orange, or typical hound
tricolor.
Personality: Affectionate, cheerful, clean, tranquil, and pleasing, with
a harmonious voice.
Uses: The breed is specialized for the hunting of hare, pheasant, and
quail, but it has even been used for catching fish. It has also enjoyed
periods of great popularity as a companion dog. There is a variety of
miniature beagle, the Elisabeth beagle, which is no more than 12 inches high and
weighs just 22 pounds. In the past, mounted hunters carried this miniature
beagle in their saddlebags. According to the book, "The Guide to a
Happy, Healthy Pet, by Richard Roth, "The Beagle's eyes
reveal honesty, loyalty, affection, and
intelligence.
